Cuenca, Azuay, Ecuador
We are from Connecticut originally and have most recently lived in North Carolina, USA. We are starting a new life in South America so our retirement $'s will go farther toward a new way of life and a new adventure.Prior to June of 2010 we never thought a move such as this would be possible or advantageous for us. And, that is why we call this blog "Retirement: Plan B" We intend to see and do as much as possible in our retirement. Spend quality time with family, friends and each other.

And So It Begins

We have been in Cuenca since June 15th 2011. We have been living together 24/7 a little longer than that and so far no broken bones or even bruised egos. Actually, all is going well and we have been really busy trying to get this new segment of our lives started.
We have gotten back in touch with our friends Mick and Kathy and the people of Cuenca we met when we were here in February. We have gotten a post office box, rented a condo, bought appliances and furniture, we have set up internet in our new home and our learning about our new neighborhood.
We were very lucky to find a condo in a convenient location. It is on the 5th floor with terrific views of the mountains that surround Cuenca and is within walking distance of just about everything we need. We have 24 hour secuity and we think we will be very happy here. Our landlord ( actually, the owner's son ) has already proven himself to be a terrific kid and has gone out of his way to help us get started here in Cuenca.

We can't say we are living in paradise, because, while we think Cuenca is going to be a great place to live it isn't perfect and we really don't think there is such a place.
